Police reassure residents in Sneinton after man stabbed in the back


Officers acted swiftly to secure the scene and reassure residents following a stabbing that left a man requiring hospital treatment.

Police were called to St Stephen’s Road in Sneinton at around 1pm today after a man was reported to have been stabbed in the back.

Nottinghamshire Police quickly attended the scene and conducted area searches in order to locate a suspect, who is believed to have fled on foot in the direction of Newark Avenue.

A short time later, police arrested an 19-year-old man in Newark Avenue on suspicion of grievous bodily harm in connection with the incident.

A knife has also been recovered following a search.

Police are now appealing for anyone who may have seen something suspicious in the area at the time to get in touch as soon as possible.

Detective Inspector Kayne Rukas, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “This is a shocking violent attack that happened in broad daylight but residents can be reassured that this is an isolated incident with no risk to the wider public.

“Patrols have been upped in Sneinton in order to provide reassurance and anyone with any concerns is encouraged to speak with officers on patrol or call 101.

“Officers did an excellent job to quickly arrive at the scene, secure the area and conduct searches in order to locate and arrest a suspect.

“The victim is not believed to have life-threatening injuries, however, whenever a knife is used in an incident, there is always the possibility of a far more serious outcome.

“I am now appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time who may have witnessed the incident to get in touch as soon as possible.

“Any information you have, no matter how insignificant a detail you may think it is, could go some way to help us solve who did this.”
