We’ve spoken to Ruth Edwards MP, Reg Adair, Acting Leader of Nottinghamshire County Council and County Councillor for Leake and Ruddington, and Richard Butler for Cotgrave after today’s Tory victory.
The Conservatives gained overall control of Nottinghamshire
Richard Butler said:
‘I’m very pleased that Nottinghamshire County Council is now under majority Conservative control – it shows that the people of Nottinghamshire are putting trust in us to look after them, and to run the council in an efficient way.
‘We understand that the decisions we take do affect everyone in Notts – it’s a very big responsibility, we realise we’re responsible for budget-making decisions of £1bn – we know when we manage the budget it’s public money – we will run things as efficiently as we possibly can.’
Reg Adair said:
‘We’re very very pleased that we’ve come back with 37 members of the council, up from 32 and we’re extremely thankful to people for putting trust in us and our manifesto
‘I’d also like to thank leader Kay Cutts [ who stands down now after this election ] for her leadership over the years and getting us to this good position – it’s a good day in Nottinghamshire, we’ve turned it blue.’
Ruth Edwards, Conservative MP for Rushcliffe said:
‘It’s wonderful to see so many local Conservative candidates elected in Rushcliffe and across Nottinghamshire.
‘Huge congratulations to all of those elected today, I look forward to working with you to deliver strong public services for all local residents.
‘Thank you to everyone who supported us.’
Councillor Gordon Wheeler, County Councillor for West Bridgford West said:
‘I am very humbled by the support from the community in trusting me to serve as their County Councillor for a further four year term.
‘I shall work with residents to deliver further improvements in the Division and want to hear their views on issues that matter.
Councillor Jonathan Wheeler, County Councillor for West Bridgford South said:
‘I am delighted to have the support once again of my neighbours and community and promise to keep working hard for them.’
