8 April UK Covid update – 53 deaths and 3,030 cases – see hospitals and vaccination data

Between 1 April 2021 and 7 April 2021, there have been 5,135,403 tests.

Cases

A confirmed case is someone who has tested positive for coronavirus.

3,030 new people had a confirmed positive test result reported on 8 April 2021.

Between 2 April 2021 and 8 April 2021, 20,056 people had a confirmed positive test result. This shows a decrease of 37.3% compared to the previous 7 days.

Vaccinations

Vaccines are currently given in 2 doses, at least 21 days apart.

31,807,124 people had been given a first dose by the end of 7 April 2021.

6,091,905 people had been given a second dose by the end of 7 April 2021.

Healthcare

Some people with coronavirus have to go into hospital.

220 people with coronavirus went into hospital on 3 April 2021.

Between 28 March 2021 and 3 April 2021, 1,729 went into hospital with coronavirus. This shows a decrease of 26.1% compared to the previous 7 days.

There were 3,124 patients in hospital with coronavirus on 6 April 2021.

Some people in the hospital need to use a special device called a mechanical ventilator to help them breathe.

There were 440 coronavirus patients in hospital beds with a mechanical ventilator on 7 April 2021.

Deaths

There were 53 deaths within 28 days of a positive test for coronavirus reported on 8 April 2021.

Between 2 April 2021 and 8 April 2021, there have been 216 deaths within 28 days of a positive coronavirus test. This shows a decrease of 32.5% compared to the previous 7 days.
